I received both of My dumb adapters. Minolta MD and c mount.
Im still waiting on the Minolta chipped Adapter.
So I had a few extra minutes today and I thought I would try the Minolta MC Rokkor X 50 1.4.
This shot is at 1.4 handheld and guessametered. :D
Not happy with It, but Its a first try.
My computer is down so I had to use My netbook. So I honestly dont know how bad the shot looks on a calibrated monitor.
    Minor pp, with free software.
Hopefully I will get My computer back up soon.
    Coments are always welcome.

It doesnt look too bad, but like mine, the focus seems a little bit off. The chipped adapter will make a difference to that.

I have a Minolta Rokkor-PG f/1.4 and a Formula5 200mm f/3.5 which weighs a ton. Its not what I would have chosen but it was given to me as a bday present years and years ago. I'm considering getting a chipped adapter because the current MC/MD-->Pentax + Pentax-->Nikon 1 is even more difficult to manage :)

Thats probably what I should of done. Order one with a tripod mount.
I could of ordered the chip seperately and glued It on myself.

I just purchased a Nikon V1 and V2 (although I expect that I'll be selling one them after I get a sense for how each of them handles and performs). I got a nice deal on the V1 because it was bundled with lenses I wanted, and the V2 was bought new from Canada at a lower price than used ones are selling for in the U.S., as unlike here, in Canada, the V3 intro was preceded by a fire sale on the V2.

Is there any way to get any sort of metering and automation with legacy manual glass with either of these cameras? My Micro 4/3 gear works great in Metered Manual and Aperture Priority modes with legacy lenses. And since I have some great Nikkor and Canon FD glass in the 200-300mm range, as well as good 2X TCs in both mounts, I might have some very impressive uber-telephotos when these lenses are mounted on my V1 / V2 bodies. But despite the longer reach that the 2.7x crop factor yields on these bodies, vs. 2.0x on Micro 4/3, they will not be as useful as they are on my Micro 4/3 bodies if I can't use Metered Manual or Aperture Priority modes. So can I use them that way?

Without a chipped Adapter you can only shoot in M mode. With the chipped Adapter you will be able to shoot in A mode. You also will get focus confirm.

If you just use a dumb Adapter you will get metering. This is how you do It.

    1) Mount Adapter and Legacy Lens on camera, and set Lens aperture.

    2) Put camera in full auto mode.

    3) Point toward target, I prefocus.
You will get the message wont shoot without Lens.

    4) Look at bottom of screen and check shutter speed.

    5) Put camera in M mode.

    6) Set ISO

    7) Set shutter speed to Match what camera metered in full auto.

    8) Snap pic, review and adjust shutter speed If needed.

    Thats It.

Thanks. Do you know of any source for Canon FD to Nikon 1 chipped adapters? I could not find any on ebay. Also, do you know if the Nikon FT-1 adapter acts as a chipped adapter with F / Ai / AiS lenses?

I did find some for M42, but I don't have any great long fast M42 lenses - I do have a good Pentax 200mm f4, but my manual Nikkor and Canon FD glass is faster (and I have good Kiron 7 element 2X TCs in both of those mounts as well).

I havent tried the FT1 Adapter. So I dont know.

Gphoto Store on EBay is the only source for chipped adapters for Nikon 1 system.
They normally sell the Canon FD Adapter, they are just sold out Now.
    Try sending them a message.
They also sell the chip for $40 which you can glue on any Nikon 1 FD Adapter.

FYI, I found the specs for the FT1 adapter, and it turns out that it sort of functions as a chipped adapter with manual Nikon glass, but not completely. It does provide metering in Aperture-priority and manual mode, with center-weighted and spot metering options. But it does not provide focus confirmation with manual lenses.

    I received My Adapter today.
    First is the fit. Perfect.
Im glad I ordered the Adapter and not the chip seperate.
This Adapter is the best fitting Adapter ive used.

Second It works. Im using it on My J1.

I read on another Forum that the chips firmware has been updated to include support for the S1.

Using this Adapter in A mode. You need to set the camera Aperture setting to f1.4 , regardless of the actual Aperture you set on the Lens.

You do have focus confirm. One arrow shows backfocus, the other arrow shows front focus. The white dot is focus confirm.

Mag view works, but no focus confirm in mag view.

    Auto ISO also works.
Metering was checked on another Forum and Its accurate.

I had a few minutes today just before dark, so I put My 50 1.4 on.
I Cant wait to shoot more with this combo.
I wont have time to shoot any samples for a couple days, but im really happy.

First test shot. Minolta Rokkor 50 1.4 at 1.4.
Really need to order a grip for my J1. I will need it using Legacy glass.
I will try to shoot more after the sun shifts gMO6Y1H.

FYI, they replied to my e-mail, and said that they expect to get more stock of the chipped Canon FD to Nikon 1 adapters in 2-3 weeks.

Nice flower shot with the Minolta Rokkor, BTW.
