I met up with another forum member here yesterday at a local coffee shop to buy a camera and talk about gear and photography. Here's a few shots.

We met at Alterra at the Lake. They are a very hip coffee company that is all about community, sustainability and good, strong coffee.

This location is across the street from Lake Michigan and a big marina (and also just a 4 block walk from Milwaukee's greatest record store:wink:)

The building was built in 1888 and started out it's life as a flushing station.

Cool! Nice shots, and great to meet other members. Quick question, though -- what lens is used in that first shot? I don't care for that bokeh at all. Makes my eyes hurt!

Jim looks like he can't decide between half & half or skim.

I'm not crazy about it (in that shot) either. It's the Fuji XF35mm for all of the shots. I wonder if it's the busy-ness of the trellis and all those details being so undefined that is the main cause. Also, I don't know if having an ND filter on there could change the quality of the out of focus area, but I suppose anything is possible.

I'm the Jim in the last of Luke's photos and I'm not sure if the look is indicative of indecision regarding skim or half and half, or I just needed another coffee. Or maybe I was having a hard time parting with a camera I really enjoyed over the past months. Then again, the blood money will be going toward a good cause - my GR should be arriving in a week or so.

You don't need the RX100, you have the RX1. I was just missing those cool in-camera filters since I sold the RX1. Now I got my Sony illustrations back!

Well just don't go posting any supa cool shots that will reconvince me I need it. Lol ;D
I need to work on some cool ivoire-inspired b&w watercolor ones.
That shot posted in another thread is still blowing my mind!

Is there a Sony program to add these effects afterwards? Like Olympus has for sticking art filter effects on pics...?

Wait a second.....you mean I didn't need to buy an OMD to get the grainy B/W filter? Now I'm angry.

We'll never know if Jim selected the half & half, or the skim, or if it was indeed his second coffee of the day.

The bokeh in pic #4 isn't much better. Is this typical bokeh for the 35/1.4?

I'm afraid your question is above my pay grade. Especially when it's kind of a subjective thing. In the first photo, I also kinda find the bokeh irksome...in #4 it doesn't bother me. But there are some times where I'll even whole heartedly embrace some crazy nervous bokeh, so I'm probably the wrong guy to ask. I haven't heard many complain about it....and maybe I have a bad sample....who knows. Maybe checking through a lens specific gallery will answer your question.
