    Real Name:
From this weekend's camping trip to Peddocks Island in the Boston Harbor, with a stopover at Georges Island. Georges has Fort Warren (1847) and Peddocks has a smattering of WWI and WWII installations, long since boarded up. Here are just black and whites of the fortifications.

A gun site on Peddocks. Bracing the camera in a rusty hole in a door, peering into a pitch-black room, shutter open for 2 seconds. Stalagmites from all the drippy roof cracks. And what looks an awful lot like a Van Halen grafiti sign... these ruins have been here a long time.

A pried-open door, Peddocks. The 14mm lens really came out crisp on this one.

Blacker than black, in the mortar gun tunnels on Peddocks. I went in.

Room to room in the mortar tunnels, I couldn't see farther than 5-10 feet in front of me. The little headlamp was just swallowed up by the blackness down there. So each new room, I'd hand-hold a 1/2 second exposure with my headlamp pointed out, then chimp to see how big the room was. If it was a dead end, I could turn around. And THEN, like an idiot, I imagined looking at my next shot and seeing the girl from Blaire Witch Project standing in one corner facing the wall, got pretty freaked out, and left.

On the way back out of the mortar tunnels, good and spooked by now, but calm enough to line up a nice centered, level shot. (pats self on back)

Gun ports inside the mortar ring.
