Mostly Grounded.

Oh your poor little kitty does seem to be in the wars lately. I really hope things are on the up now...... we are always here to listen to your woes :)
Thanks, Christina! Tom would thank you too, if he were here. He's gone out (its 4.15am here, and thats fine with him) and I will be anxious until he returns. He has been sickly ever since he came to live here. I'm amazed he's even still alive. I really didnt expect him to be around this long (he's approaching 12 now) and I am sure he's running out of his limit of 9.

I'm glad Tom is okay Sue and I hope you can keep him inside where he is safe from now on too. Not a great believer in letting pets run free, mind you I am not saying you did at all, sometimes they just get out, but it's a sad thing to hear of someone's loved one being killed by other animals or vehicles when keeping them in could have saved their lives.

As to what to do when housebound I have had a lot of practice. Macro for a start is a great way to explore things one doesn't normally look at. Numerous links have been shared here in this form of photographers who hone their skills or even expand them into photographing worlds they create from cut out silhouette film noir to food landscapes and it's actually kinda nice not to shoot the same stuff over and over, so perhaps look at it as an opportunity for some time with Tom [my Cleo died in October, you really are blessed to still have him] and explore new photographic challenges.

And if you need ideas, just ask ;)

Try doing that with a cat that has been feral for almost two years before he came to you. It took weeks before he would stay in the house for more than an hour or two. We do the best we can, with what we have. At least he is now socialised. It took 3 years before he would even purr or miaow.

Thanks, yes: but, as I say, its less about the lack of photography than being able to get out. I'm sure if I was really craving it, I would find a way.

My sympathies re Cleo, I did not know (or have now forgotten, another feature of my health issues). My own Ms Smoochie had to be euthanased in 2010 at the age of 18, she was so sick and unhappy at the end: I think that's the worst of it. You know you have them for such a short time, relatively speaking, and yet, there's no way to adequately prepare for the inevitable...

I've done this and it's a lot of fun, you should do it Sue!
Yes, I have actually been contemplating this kind of thing, I need to get into town though, to the one and only hobby store we have. (I've already decided I want those little wooden figures, with joints. They are on ebay too) However, as always, it comes down to $$$. I know they don't cost much, but the car comes first, last and in between, and every dollar counts. All I am spending on right now is food and bills, the absolute essentials.

As I said I wasn't making assumptions or judging you, I have just had too many neighbors tell me of lost cats and dogs hit by cars that they had to euthanize. Our dog, she is now gone, but she had been feral too eating out of garbage. My husband was working out of town, he had driven and was using a rental car. He stopped for gas, had left the windows open in an air conditioned car while he was in the station and went in to get something to snack on while he drove. Then he got back in the car and left. Several miles down the road he saw a dog in the rear view mirror! He pulled over, stunned of course and then saw she wasn't mean or anything and rather than kick her out into the wild, he took her home. We know she at garbage because she puked it up in the back seat of the car, paper, wood bits, chunks of whatever food, she was sick from the heat. We too care of her and when we couldn't find her a home we kept her until she got cancer and had to be put to sleep. She was a good dog but for a good period of time she was people detached save for wanting food from us.

Any kind of toy will do.. it's the point of making it appear to be part of a larger scene, to be involved and show some emotion, an old action figure etc will do. Also there is a lot of neat stuff on here.. Colossal | A blog about art and visual ingenuity. not all is photography but much is. Also a lit of DIY setups here DIYPhotography.net | Hacking Photography For The Love of It Macro and still life are very good house exercises. Even product photography.

Buy some little toy figures, hide them in the grass doing odd stuff & tilt-shift, do something to make Luke jealous!

Listen here young lady..... don't tease the nice moderator.

But of course, you're right. I went out on a photowalk today with local flickr-ites. It was a good cure for me. I was getting the winter blues and we had a super nice weather day. But the DEEP FREEZE is coming in tonight and we'll be single digits and below zero (Fahrenheit) for a few days straight so I'll be going stir crazy shortly. I'm gonna go into macro mode. I think the thrift store down the road has some toy cars. But the cool thing about macro is you don't REALLY need to buy anything. There's all sorts of things that can just be re-scrutinized.
