Performing Arts Music/Band photography

My main camera throughout the Festival was the Sony A7 along with the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1 lens. There were a couple of instances when I needed a serious telephoto lens and that was when I was photographing in a large concert hall and was restricted from getting close to the action.

But in several instances I was forced to use my Canon 7D DSLR purely because the Sony A7 shutter was way too loud during quiet performances. I was informed that several people in the audience complained about the noise from the cameras from the official media photographers on previous nights. So I was forced to use the silent shutter function on the 7D. However, using the silent shutter function on the 7D meant I had to do all my manual focusing via LiveView which was a bit of a pain. So yeah, the noise from the A7 was a huge pain to deal with.

My preferred camera would've been the Leica M240 which would've been far quieter.
