So these good friends of ours organize a large group ride several times a year called the Musical Mystery Bike Ride. A core team of 4-5 people figure out some awesome route near / in the city, full of little-known nooks and crannies where most people never go. And then they arrange for bands to be at the stops when we arrive. And as a participant, you know nothing except the starting point and time. We finally made it out on a ride, with kid and pug in tow.
I shot 90% of it with the 27 pancake / circ polarizer, and then at some stops I pulled out the 56. Didn't even bring anything else with me. And oh, did it reaffirm my love for the 27 pancake... it's JUST wide enough to get away with group ride shots, it can pull off a little bokeh here and there, and it's just so damned tiny. If you're going to shoot something active, and you haven't got the 27, I strongly urge you to consider finding one used. It's liberatingly small and simple.
First stop, 27mm, dictated f2.8
