I was born and raised in Leiden, the Netherlands. My roots go back to the late 1500s in that city (and neighbouring leiderdorp). There is a lot of water in the old town, which is approximately 2 meters below sea water level. I have seen it a lot when I lived there. But I never looked at the city from a boat. A visit from old neighbours from our Princeton (NJ) days, brought a good excuse to take a boat ride through the canals. I must admit that it was very enjoyable, not only because one of my basketball buddies was the (voluntary) skipper, but also because I got totally different views. Herewith some photos I took.

The skipper (an "old" basketball buddy)

I am pretty sure there are some bikes in the canals in Leiden.

    Bridges can be low.

This one was shot at 1/4sec. I wanted to delete it but did not.

Beautiful series. Thank you. The second shot is my favorite -- with simply gorgeous black and white processing.
