With Samsung NX20 now selling at exactly 1/2 the introductory price, I finally bit the bullet and bought it.

It is a surprisingly well constructed body that sits very well in my hands. The EVF is very similar to Panasonic GH2 — a bit smaller and slightly more crisp. The rear screen is simply excellent — it's the same panel as used in Panasonic GH3 and Olympus E-M5.

I was afraid of long processing times, but with the latest firmware and the fastest card available (Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I rated at 90MB/s) the camera is very nimble.

However, there are two small niggles. 1) The power switch around the shutter button is very firm and it's somewhat difficult to turn it with just one finger. I tried to do turn the camera on/off repeatedly for several minutes and now I have a bruise on my index finger! 2) The top control dial is about as bad as the rear click-dial on the Panasonic GF2. It's a far cry from the GH2's smoothness.

I think I will buy Samsung's 12-24mm UWA zoom and 30/2 and/or 45/1.8 lenses. I'm used to shooting with two cameras and this will be my wide-angle/normal camera with the Nikon V1 serving as my telephoto camera and camcorder.

    P1020625.

I'm definitely a GAS victim this week

That is a handsome setup. I peeked briefly at a couple of reviews, and it looks like it's an awful lot of camera for the money. :2thumbs:

Intelligent setup, I think, the way you're splitting duties between 2 systems.

    Anticipating pics...

Congrats on the new acquisition! I've always loved how sturdy and the NX10/11/20 feel and how well they fit my hand. Glad to hear it's faster than the old NX's. Looks like a nice couple of lenses you're planning to get for it, I'm sure you'll enjoy the system very much! Looking forward to seeing some results!

Congrats on the arrival Pavel - looking forward to spying the outputs.
Will it make it to your signature block my friend?

I think Capture One may be the best RAW converter for this camera. In Lightroom the tonal map is heavily biased towards shadows which makes ETTR very difficult. Some files look just plain wrong in LR, no matter what I do, but they turn out beautifully when developed in Capture One.

I like your lens plan. I only have the 30 f2 right now but I think the 12-24 will be the next lens, then the 45.

Wonder how the 16-50 2-2.8 would look on your NX20 ;)

Nice...congrats. I'm loving my NX20 and will upgrade my firmware as well. I got a fast memory card already and it did help a bit.

I have the kit lenses, as well as the 16mm, 30mm, 85mm...and plan on getting the 16-50mm "S" Lens, the 60mm Macro (and maybe the 12-24mm).

I will be selling the 16mm and the kit 18-55mm.

I'm just becoming a "serious amateur", and look forward to producing more pictures that push all of the naysayers and Samsung haters to rethink their position. I personally like going for the "off shoot" or lesser-used brands, and blazing my own trail. (vs being just another Canon or Nikon fanboy) Potential resale value aside, I'm fine with my decision to go Samsung.

I'm also going Samsung with a NX1100 and, maybe, a NX10 for use with longer lenses.

Has the NX20 focus peaking? If it has, does it work well?

No, it doesn't have focus peaking.

The NX30 will definitely have focus peaking. It appears to be heavily based on the NX300 running gear and OS.

On my old NX200 there was a rather odd little "contrast-o-meter" that you could turn on but I never found it to be a useful focusing aid.

i owned this baby and have few problem with it,
    - respond time to set the focus point after taking a shot need some time to keep the NX20 can move the focus point
    - when you flip the LCD as you want to selfie, we cannot move focus point as usual behaviour, you need to place the LCD in normal position then you can adjust your focus position
    - when you move the LCD near 90 degree from the default position (LCD view against your face) your LCD view suddenly mirroring view

holy crap, still have bug in such expensive body, damn!

The NX20 is a very good looking camera. I strongly recommend the 30mm, it's amazingly sharp and very compact. My next purchase will be the 12-24mm. To my needs, 12-24, 30 and 45 would be a very solid kit.

    LOL :)
I got the 30mm first, got my 12-24 last week, and my 45mm will be arriving later this week. Solid lens lineup indeed. Just waiting on the fast 55mm/60mm portrait prime solution from Samsung :)

I questioned the focal length as being too short at first but the 45mm has turned out to be a wonderful head-and-shoulders portrait lens.

Indeed, I use the Sigma 30mm in m4/3, and it's very useful as a more environmental portrait lens.
