Off to sunny Portugal next week. A holiday is sorely needed. This is a sittin'-on-the-beach-with-a-book break rather than a major photo-opportunity so I am only taking the following:

    Fuji X10
    Ricoh GR
    Leica IID with 5cm Elmar

That's the lot. Spare batteries, spare film and some time on my hands for a change.

    Heaven

I have just totted it up. This week I have made or received 35 phone calls, dialled into 8 conference calls, attended six meetings and responded to 224 emails - and this was a four-day working week...

The best part about being on the beach is that it means I'm not at work. I don't get along with sun very well, but I could sit under an umbrella all day long and listen the waves lap up on the shore.

Still haven't learnt how to do the sittin'-on-the-beach-with-a-book type of holiday myself, but maybe that isn't such a bad thing. If you like it, do it. Enjoy!

Have a lovely time Bill. The most reading I did on holiday was on the four hour flight home!

I'm glad to know you are coming to my country. If you want some hints on places to see and things to do feel free to send me an e-mail. On the other hand, if you really are coming only for the beach - I shall never understand travelling just for it, but fortunately we are not all alike - don't send the e-mail, I shall not bother you

    I'm not gone yet

Icsolla, I am delighted to be visiting Portugal again, one of my favourite countries. I was in Lisbon already earlier this year - my third visit there, and the place I proposed to my wife (on top of the castle  ) I am heading this time to Albufeira. Our break will probably take the form of blobbing on a sun lounger for a day or three or until we get bored, then hiring a car and touring around a bit. On previous visits I have stayed before near Paderne and Guia and certainly intend to head to Monchique for a bit of a mooch around. I would be delighted to hear any other recommendations... I have a low boredom threshold, two paperback books and a Kindle...
