Here's a random thought. It's vanishingly unlikely that the innards are completely unique. Is it worth going to your local phone/gadget repair shack and seeing if they have a solution?

I did, in fact, try that. The guy there said that each brand has their own. I've looked at a few online and they do all seem to be unique.
