I was in NYC last week for a conference and some time off. Had the Fuji X100T with me. I wanted to shoot a series about people in square format an in a Noir style while strolling through the streets of Manhattan. So nothing planned. I must admit that I missed some potentially interesting shots because I looked elsewhere.

Herewith some shots. Some are intentionally, some are unintentionally unsharp. ;-)

Some nice observations here, I enjoyed them :) I think the stand out one for me is the man on his phone, number 11 I think!

Number one is fabulous. Classic HCB, in my view.

    Well done.

Wow! Some very fine shots there. About the first one, what's the special effect you applied.

Did you talk to your subjects before you took their photos, or just shoot bravely? Thanks for sharing these.

I processed everything in Silver Efex with film noir 3 preset. Filters and adjustments, depending on result. The first one is preset only. The effect is the result of the lights at Times Square.

No talks with the people ( I tried to keep up with my wife ;-) ). But I smiled when someone saw me taking the photo. The guy in the car posed with the dog and thanked me for taking the photo. Amazing, isn't it. He was very fond and proud of his dog.

Street photography is a difficult type of photography for me. I do want to portray people in their normal routine. I delete photos that are not flattering. I also try to respect people's privacy. Basically I ask "what if someone took a photo of me in that situation".

Hopefully one day I will have the courage to take street portraits in a documentary style.

Btw: I like the noir style for this photography. It triggers stronger emotions (at least in me).

In no. 1, the young lady second from left, next to the man in the suit, looks exactly like Ferris Bueller's girl friend.

Thanks for letting me know. There seems to be something weird going on at Zenfolio, because I see several grey boxes instead of the photos. I will check again in an one or two hours and if it does not work, upload and post again. Hopefully I still know what the photos were.

Frankly, I didn't have a clue who Freddy Bueller or his his girlfriend are. So I had to look it up. If she lives in NYC, it might be her with a friend. Don't know. It was on 5th ave so who knows.

...placing TWO tripods across the High Line! Not cool, random guys. That walkway gets crowded.
