In reading the Phoblographers admittedly initial impressions, he says the XE2 doesn't seem to have much faster AF (at least in doors) and the EVF seems the same.

That would be sad, and frankly I'm not sure what would make the XE2 compelling if that was the case.

Hope production release performs much better

edit: though looking again at DPR http://www.dpreview.com/previews/fujifilm-x-e2/

two of the listed improvements are
    - 1.8x faster file write times
    - Improved EVF framerates in low light (60 fps vs 20 fps)

Hopefully reviews of full production units will come soon.

You really are keeping a close eye on this, huh?

Honestly for me the AF is the only thing I'd really like improved on. Any other upgrades are just a bonus.

AF, and EVF refresh, and overall sluggishness are the main things that turned me off. Sad if any of that wasn't addressed.

I placed a pre-order on the XE2 with the local shop. I returned the XA1 in spite of its pretty darn good image quality. Shooting without a VF is just too weird for me, particularly when using anything but a pancake lens on the camera. And I already have an EPL5 + PL14/2.5 for that.

The AF speed on the XE1 wasn't all that horrible. It was certainly faster than the Oly EP1/EP2/EPL1. What irked me the most about the XE1's AF was its inability to lock AF on the subject at times. And sometimes giving me focus confirmation when in fact it wasn't in focus. Hopefully that will get worked out. Face detection will definitely be a plus for me, because it makes portrait shooting SO much easier, particularly for shallow DOF work.

Ironically, I was playing with the XE1 at the local shop in conjunction with the 14/2.8 and the Touit 12/2.8. The AF seemed pretty fast and accurate to me. Maybe it's because I haven't used a XE1 for a while and/or the firmware upgrades actually made if faster. Or maybe it's because I wasn't using the XE1 right after using the EM5.

Using the Fuji right after the OM-D is just plain disrespectful. LOL

I keep my XE1 and EM5s locked in the same bag. I'm hoping they'll breed and I get a Fuji with the EM5s IBIS and AF.

I have the same issue as Jack. It's not the speed. In low light the XE1 just won't lock. Makes the sensor performance useless. But it's much better with the 35mm. Maybe primes are better than zooms? The lens speed certainly helps.

I'm going to play with the CAF focus trick this weekend and see how that goes. But I'm really hoping the XE2 has good low light af accuracy.

LOL!! Many of us are hoping for that!!

What CAF trick? You have a XE2 in hand already?

For whatever its worth, the AF on the XA1 in low light appeared to be more decisive and accurate than the XE1 (with its original firmware).

The phase detection in the X100S was underwhelming to me compared to the X-E1, so I'm honestly not expecting that much difference in AF to the X-E2 personally.

There are a number of other features in the X-E2 that are attractive (to me) besides AF, but it's clearly meant to be an incremental upgrade to the X-E1 more than anything else.

Ah well. Guess I'll continue to stay out of Fuji then.

And the Sony doesn't interest me. Probably because of cost.

Looks like it's the EOS-M still for a while, but the rumored "retro" Nikon FF might make me rethink being in Canon!

I guess Bill and his EOS-M won't be invited to the mirrorless party then!

No XE2. The XE1 focuses far more reliably in low light with CAF. It uses more battery, but at least it locks on.

Oh yeah! All the X cameras do AF better in CAF. My X100 is like that too. Able to focus closer too. But that constant whirring is annoying and probably not too good for the hardware if I leave it on CAF while walking around.
