Saw this man's work on the One Show the other night. I thought they were photographs. Incredible stuff.

I have seen this before, not this particular artists work but people who draw as if they've taken a photograph. They have amazing talent!

to me, it's a bit like vegetarian foods that emulate meat products. I'm impressed that they can do it, but wonder why.

Although to be honest I had some faux bacon (I call it fakin') that was pretty tasty.

It's a bit of a niche genre. it asks some nice questions about reality and "reality" (especially about the claim of photography to be something to do with reality) but i'm not sure where it goes after that. i've seen this type of photorealism in galleries on some really big canvases and it really took me by surprise (i hate the phrase "wow factor" but that's what it was), but after that I felt a bit "meh" about it.
there's no doubting the technical accomplishment of course.
it's definitely worth seeking out seeing in person though, web viewing is impressive but seeing the surface of this sort of stuff up close is a different experience.
