    While some here may be interested in a firmware update to the RX1, as a first post this is awfully spammy, Ben. Why don't you stop by here and introduce yourself...... https://www.photographerslounge.org/forumdisplay.php?f=18

    And frankly, I never felt the RX1 needed improving upon. How will you feel if Sony comes up with a firmware update that turns your RX1 into a brick. I think there's something to be said for a product that has been thoroughly thought out before its' release and doesn't need firmware updates.

    Thanks for your reply. I didn´t want to be spamy - I just thought you guys would be interested in the update aswell. So far I´ve only lurked on this forum, scince I had nothing really interesting to write about.

    There are certain situations which clearly show the limits of the RX1. For example low aperture flash photography in dim light, or manual focusing of moving scenes (street photography) - While investigating the matter I noticed quite a lot of other people complaining about the same stuff. That´s why there is this petition. I think the release of the RX1R would have been a perfect situation to release a firmware update which SONY didn´t do. However.. I´m not worried about bricking the camera as sony is a multi billion dollar company and I´m quite sure they can manage to release a pretty save update without much hussle :)

    I'm not a great fan of petitions; I've yet to see one that works for something like this. In today's digitally-connected, social-media savvy world there are more effective ways to get your message across.

    Please, be my guest. What can one do in that particular case?

    not to rain on anyones parade, and to be sure i am an rx1 owner, but sony doesnt update. it puts out new cameras, thats their idea of updating. they are bottom feeders in support of any kind. when you buy sony you should expect to get whats in the box, nothing more. if supports important buy fuji.

    Corporations such as Sony pay considerably more attention to social media activity than they do to petitions, which are seen as "...so 20th Century" (I quote the DCX director of a well-known multi-national). If you want to make a difference you should build your campaign on Twitter, G+ and other platforms to get a reaction.

    We are all aware that sony has a strickt no-update policy:026:. I got around 30 other people who told me exactly that since I started this. But this is a really special case. There is no - and most likely will never be - a successor to the RX1 - besides the RX1R which is identical in hard- and firmware. That´s what this petition is all about.
    Also the alpha7´s recently got updated.

    @Lightmancer
    Thanks for the tip. I try to reach widespread attention. That´s why I started this petition and now try to raise awareness through forums/facebook etc. Maybe I should rethink my approach since I am not a twitter user. Im just a single person with no real followerbase - so.. yeah. Funny that so many people react so negative to this, even so they mostly agree that a update would be nice.

    Genuinely curious - what makes this "...a really special case"? I get if you have the camera that it matters to you, but that doesn't mean that it matters to everyone, nor in the same way. Sweeping generalisations in your petition can only weaken your case - defining something as "...by far the most requested feature" is subjective at best. Equally something like reversing the direction of the focus ring surely is a "nice to have" by any standards, and will matter most to someone who also has another camera or system that turns in the opposite direction - a subset of a subset. I do get what you are trying to do, and I do sympathise, but I think you are trying to climb a mountain without agreement on which boots to wear, let alone which path to take.

    its much less a matter of who in the customer base cares or thinks its unique and much more a matter of sony has demonstrated time and again that it doesnt care. it is solely the fact of its uniqueness that caused me to overcome my intense dislike of sony and buy an rx1--though i did buy it very slightly used so sony didnt get my money. ):

    As I have stated before: Sony policy: No updates, just release an improved successor. The "special case: there will be no successor because the RX1 was somwhat of a "prove of concept" and it is most likely that it will just be discontinued

    The most feedback I got and the most stuff I read was about the focus peek zoom. But you are right and I removed the "most requested feature".
    About the mountain thing: Does it really matter? I would be glad if even one of the points in the petition would be adressed.. it´s better to climb a mountain in sandals than barefoot.

    @rbelyell
    I know about SONY´s attitude.. but why not simply try it. We got nothing to loose after all.

    Perhaps it is correct to say that Sony doesn't, or won't, update the RX1/R firmware, but it is not correct to say that Sony doesn't update camera firmware in general. In the past year, Sony has provided firmware updates for the A7 and A7R, the QX10 and QX100, and the RX10. There are widely-requested updates to the RX1/R firmware, such as the ability to set a minimum shutter speed in auto ISO, but for some reason, Sony has not acted on those requests. I don't understand why Sony has chosen to neglect a premium product like the RX1.

    Its correct and right to point out that Sony does indeed update firmware.
    However it tends to do so for bug fixes. Very occasionally for new functionality but it tends to focus its R&D on a product as a whole rather then split its R&D too much between old and yet-to-be-released products

    Its just a different way of doing things. My A7s has had two updates but my RX1 has none. I don't care they both work superbly.
