Anne Frank's house, Amsterdam
There are things hidden under this beach, and in the white hut on the left.
Any guesses ?

(taken with a point and shoot, I'm afraid, so the picture quality isn't the best)
On the coast of the UK it could be anything. Wreck? Smuggler's contraband? I feel that I should know where that is but can't put my finger on it.
Sorry, not even close. Not smugglers contraband or buried treasure.
Is that the transatlantic cable hut?
Very good, yes it is.
It's Porthcurno Beach in West Cornwall, not that far from Lands End. It's where early submarine telegraph cables left mainland Britain and set off for the empire - India and Africa and beyond. Quite an amazing technological and logistical achievement in the late 1800s. The copper cables were/are buried under the beach and terminated in the white hut on the left of the picture.
I believe that modern fibre-optic communication cables still come ashore there,.
I took the picture from the Minack Theatre, which is perched on the cliffs above Porthcurno.
Of course it is!! I should have known, I spent many happy holidays in that area of Cornwall as a kid.
