Reason to keep that Canon after all, no? Nice shots Pete. Looks like a nice vantage point too. Here's one I took a few days ago from the deck of the place we're staying in North Carolina. This is really cold water (hence the wetsuit) but the air temp was near 70 that day. It's with a Nikon 70-300, but cropped down to probably a 400-450mm equivalent. But not near as close to start. I sometimes think a longer lens would be nice, but I shoot this kind of telephoto stuff so rarely, I'd just end up getting rid of it for disuse - the 70-300 is enough for me...

I have the 100-400 Canon, version 1. And while it is a monster to carry around I like the way it renders. I've developed slight tremors in both hands and I've toyed with the idea of selling it, but just can't bring myself to do so. I enjoy these surf pictures given I'm a million miles from a beach:)
