This is year two of the project documenting old burial grounds. I shot here last year with the Nikon cameras and this year with the Fujis. I'm working here for 13 more days and intend to shoot with the Sigma Cameras as well. I just need a little drier day than I had today.

  2. Wow, that's a long process, but you've got some nice shots out of it.

Have you come across the grave of the English composer E J Moeran, 1894-1950, it bears the inscription "He Lies In The Mountain Country He Loved So Well". He had an Irish father and spent long periods at Kenmare, his compositions bear more than a hint of Ireland in them. He died there in 1950.

Barrie! Thanks so much for that information. Moeran died in Kenmare and I'm sure he was buried here as that's where they held the funeral. The Old Burial Ground was in use at the time of his death and there are very good maps of the plots and who's where. I'm going to look for him tomorrow. I really appreciate the information.

I was in Leitrim a couple of years ago and saw some interesting burial-related sites. This is a lovely old ruined church in Keshcarrigan where burials have been made inside the ruin:

and this is from a tiny chapel in Carrick-on-Shannon where the builder and his wife are interred under glass in lead coffins :

The quality of my photos aren't up to much but if you're in the area.........
