This is the oldest open air swimming pool in the UK - 143yrs old!

The pool used to be the bath house for the personal bodyguard for the Earl, their barracks was the castle you can see behind the far wall in the distance.

It is a real sun trap and is still filled by it's own well, it is open between May & Sep only.

How old is the slide? I'm guessing it's less than 143.

Very nice. I wonder what chemicals they used early on.

None, if you don't count H2O, though they might have used vinegar to clean the pool itself when empty to scrub the surfaces, but even that'd be quite unusual. Anyhow, I like the picture of the pool - nice scenic capture

In between seasons the pool undergoes thorough maintenance to include painting etc.

It is a real sun trap and offers hot food & drink so families can make a day of it.

Brings back memories of Ruislip Lido way back when :) In those days we were hardy, no heated pools for us!

Sorry, there was supposed to be a smiley at the end of the sentence. I would like to know what they did to keep the water from stagnating.

    Steve,

I understand they used to empty & refill on a regular basis as they had their own well - must have been cold though!
