I've read a few articles by Roger Cicala in the past, and I like his pragmatic style.

I no longer give a hoot about "sharpness" or MTF charts or any of the other voodoo that infests the discussion of cameras and - especially - lenses, but for for those engaged in The Pointless Quest, here's an article about lenses that I found interesting ...

That is fascinating! Thanks for posting the link. Cicala is a gifted writer, and what he has to say brings to mind an experience I had some years ago.

I got interested in high quality audio gear and began researching the subject. Pretty soon it became apparent that there was no upward limit on what you could spend in the pursuit of "great gear." Finally one day a guy in a stereo shop said to me "Do you want to listen to the equipment or do you want to listen to the music?"

Similarly, one could ask: "Do you want to peep pixels or do you want to take photographs?"

Thanks for posting the link to Cicala's article.

    Cheers, Jock

If Don Quixote was a photographer, he'd be "tilting" at lenses, lol.

That said, I'm sure I'm guilty also.

I'm a bit confused john. Who is the Don Quixote in your comment? Cicala? Me? You? People who argue about lenses?

If the armor fits... lol -- anyone who has a "quest" that is pointless.
