I am just horrified at the pictures I have seen from Houston. 26-49 inches of rain so far on some of the least absorbent soil in the US. To those of you in Houston or with friends and family there you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wanted to start a thread in case others wanted to comment as well.

We've been getting the pix and videos over here, too. Awful.

45.6 inches of rain recorded at the far end of our street. Numerous houses on the bayou side of the street took on water, probably 1-3 feet in depth. Miraculously, the opposite side of the street - where we live - wasn't flooded.

Here are a few images from the ordeal. We we were under mandatory evacuation for 5 days. But luckily no flood water reached our home. Me and my brother both lost a car to the water.

Kayaks took over as streets became impassable.

Water coming in at 2"+ an hour...days in a row.

My wife walks through water from our drowned car. Walked to a couple of shops but alas all were closed.

Waiting out the evacuation in a safe house over looking the mayhem.

Plus the South Asia floods and Hurricane Irma - these are scary and terrible events.

Irma looks terrifying. I have some work colleagues in Florida, they are getting prepared for evacuation. I couldn't bear to have to leave home and wonder whether it would still be there.

My daughter's in laws live in Tampa which is in the prime path of Irma. Fortunately it seems to have weakened a bit.
