    Blimey.

    I mean, blimey.

We're off in a couple of months to Moscow, for a long weekend. I have to fill in the visa form. One of the requirements is to list all the countries you have visited in the past ten years.

    Blimey.

It's taken me more than 2 hours to tot it up, using a combination of Ipernity and Kayak.

    54 trips
    19 countries

    Blimey.

    I need a lie-down now.:crying:

    AARGH!

It gets worse. They want the exact dates of travel, and you can only enter up to 30 trips... :dash2: Anyone done this before??

Never done it, and now I'm very happy I haven't. I don't travel THAT much but I'd still struggle to fill it in accurately.

It's like their spy department is so lazy they're making you do the hard spying work for them.

What are they going to do if you don't get all the dates correct?

Ay, there's the rub. I have sought advice on this matter. Do I leave some out, work backwards? Who knows!

Obviously you need to consult with someone in the know to be *sure*. You might try asking a travel agent who specializes in trips to Russia or maybe consulting a forum for Russian expats or travel to Russia.

But my general feeling is that a lot of this is far less persnickety in reality than it is on paper. Nobody is actually going to vet this. And, if they do, they're not going to vet it beyond checking your list against the stamps in your passport. Just imagine that some bureaucrat created a form that was sold as being very robust because that showed he was being diligent, but that the form is never completed as "required" in real life.

If I were you, the most I would do is to list and detail trips that are evident from passport stamps. But, of course, I will deny any culpability if you end up getting detained by authorities for suspicion of espionage.

Ah, spousal over-ride is already in effect vis-a-vis my Minox... Can't think why... :D

I have already engaged the services of a visa expediting agency and my credit card concierge service. I have asked them the questions and hope for a response tomorrow. I admit that my current issues are partly down to my DIY-travel mentality - I have booked flights and hotel under my own steam, eschewing the use of a bloodsucking travel agency. Normally this works just fine, but in the case of Mother Russia you need a letter of invitation as well as a visa... The effort involved is frankly ridiculous for a four-day trip.

We went a few years ago and yes it was a pain! Wait until you arrive at immigration, you'll feel as though you're a criminal whilst they examine your "papers"

How many of those trips were within the EU and how many times was your passport stamped? If you never need to go through any formal customs and immigration check to enter a country, how does anyone record that you were there?

Passport records? I haven't been anywhere much for 20 years but I can tell you the dates before that, because its all recorded in my passport (expired, but useful for some things)

Oops sorry Nic, should have read your post first. Forgot about the EU.
