this vacation wasn't going to be about photography for me. I just needed to relax and forget about work and looking after my parents. Here I'll share some snaps I grabbed with my newly acquired little Olympus TG-850 (because everyone should have a camera that goes underwater). I apologize in advance for gratuitous use of art filters. Also, nearly every shot I share here will be SOOC....... this vacation was not about photography and I am treating these just like point and shoot snapshots. I may edit some a later date, but I wanted to share them while they were fresh. Here's my wife waiting for the ferry to take us from St. Thomas to St. John where we stayed for a week. (dramatic tone filter abuse) PC130053 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr macro of palm tree bark while waiting for ferry (grainy b/w filter) PC130060 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr selfie with wife on the ferry as sun goes down (dramatic tone filter) PC130063 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr last light on our first day and we are nearly to our destination.....we left the house at 3:30 a.m........ St. John is a LONG ways from Wisconsin (SOOC) PC130073 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr next day, time to hit the pool (and take the new camera underwater for the first time!) PC140101 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr and here's my lovely wife trying out her GoPro underwater (I still haven't seen any of her shots....and I don't think she has either) PC140105 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr these iguanas hang out by the pool most of the time. I thought the dramatic tone filter made them look more prehistoric. PC140076 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr there were quite a few cats on the grounds of the hotel. This one was pretty friendly and I loved his/her markings PC150228 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr my wife snapped this one of me when we were going snorkeling...... PC160234 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr our main goal of the trip was to see a sea turtle (since we had been shut-out on sea turtle sightings on 2 previous trips to Hawaii). We found one on our second day. Adding up everything spent on those 3 vacations means this was one VERY expensive photo. PC160247 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr so the very least I can do is correct the AWB and improve the contrast...... PC160247 by Luke Lavin, on Flickr after all that swimming, I was kind of thirsty. One thing I can attest to is that there is no shortage of rum in the Caribbean (although they may be a little low after my visit). rum punch by Luke Lavin, on Flickr After a day of playing with the camera in saltwater, it's good to give the camera a good rinse..... don't forget to rinse off your camera by Luke Lavin, on Flickr That's it for round one..... I'll update with some more when time permits.
