Welcome to part of my high and windswept world

Old Codgers Group
Since my move to South Brent I take every opportunity to get out onto Dartmoor. It's not all as featureless as some of these shots would suggest, more from lower down in the valleys at some future date.

Clapper Bridge across River Avon

It's good if you can find somewhere to cross the numerous rivers and streams and keep your feet dry

Huntingdon Warren field system
by barrie.whitehall, on Flickr

There are the occasional remains of old farmsteads and field systems out on the high moor, this one at Huntingdon Warren presumably helped sustain the Warrener who used to live here making a living from trapping the wild rabbits that lived in the warren

Red Brook Mire
by barrie.whitehall, on Flickr

The source of most of the streams and rivers begins in a Mire, here it's the Red Brook Mire that flows down to join the Bala Brook and then the River Avon. The soft and marshy ground has many traps for the unwary person who ventures out onto them, but also some delights that only occur in such places.
