Hopefully not, and since I didn't hear any shells whistling overhead I guess they were firing blanks. The clues must lie in the fact that it's 60 years (and one day) after the Queen's coronation, and this salute started to ring out from the Citadel in Plymouth at exactly 12 noon.

"Duck Barrie". No I mean in-flight, there, is that a sheldrake in flight just above the second cannon?

Great to see you again my old friend.

Mark, there are actually several small "bits" there, I looked closely when I was processing the raw file. I know nothing about guns, but could that be some sort of remnant from the blank? Each gun fired in turn at intervals of several seconds and I waited to push the shutter release when I anticipated the next round being fired.

As a teenager I used to bird watch close by a naval gunnery school with 4.5" guns. They'd fire live rounds at target drones, that was one hell of a bang and you'd hear the shell wizzing through the air
