What Is It Wednesday - Week 44

Welcome to this week's What Is It Wednesday. This one didn't pass the "can my brother identify this when he should be able to" when I sent it to him test. (so it's a good thing other wise it is too easy??).

A reminder of the rules:
Each member gets one guess. The answer will be revealed on the following Tuesday. The first correct guess has the honour of submitting the image for the next challenge. Sometimes there will be more than one thing in the photo or more than one way to accurately describe what the photo represents. The original poster will be the final judge of who is "most correct".

Ok, Richard, I waited all week to crown you the winner since no one else has played along AND you came the closest with your identification. Sad thing is no one else is going to even read this to see that you have won this week. You did come the closest by content and default. It is a booster from a Saturn 5 engine, located at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

I actually remembered the Wednesday challenge when I awoke this morning. I thought it might be an aluminum funnel. And then real life got in the way and I forgot all about making my guess.

Congrats, Richard!

The space race is a bit of a specialist subject for me - the Apollo program in particular - so I found this one fairly easy. But it seems a shame to have got it exactly right on a week when nobody else played. I could have guessed it was a frying pan and won.

I get the sense that people have become a little bored by this game and that maybe it has run its course now. What does the team think? Give it a rest for a while?

I still enjoy it. I think the level of activity in any particular WIIW thread is usually tied to how much traffic the site is getting throughout the week. And the forums have not a lot of action lately. As I look at the navigation column on the right hand side, I still see threads from last Wednesday...... there's just not very many people here participating.

I still enjoy it too. I have not a replacement for it but maybe a variation that I've been rolling around in my head for a while. Something like take the WIIW from another week and try to duplicate what you guessed it was using your camera, set up and PP. (or SOOC if it works). So in Luke's case with thinking it was a funnel, he'd take a picture of a funnel and in try to duplicate the photo of the Saturn 5 booster. Or is this waaaaaaay to silly and I should have kept it to myself :coco:

Susan, I like your creativity. But if you think we have a lack of participation now, just wait until you ask people to actually get up off the couch and be creative. :laugh1:

If I find some spare time, I MAY actually give your idea a try. Now if I can just remember if we have a funnel and which kitchen drawer contains it! :ninja:

I don't have anything lined up and tomorrow doesn't look promising, so we might be looking at next Wednesday (1st June) for the next round, unless someone else wants to post tomorrow.

My feeling is that a short break to recharge the batteries (both creative and Lithium) could be beneficial.

I sometimes find the WIIW difficult because it often requires some local US knowledge which I have no access to, I'd participate more frequently, I think, if the choices that people made were not location specific, but more general in the sense of being things that anyone and everyone might have access to. Sorry, Susan, I just had NO notion at all of what that might be :(

Give it a break, I think, albeit I am all in favour of regular contests as an aid to social cohesion.

What about a caption comp, run on similar lines? Poster posts an image and invites captions, declares a winner after a week who picks up the baton and so on.

Quick, easy, lighthearted...

I feel the same way about all the images that are European/UK. I have no idea!!!

I think the lesson to be taken from this is: don't photograph stuff that is local to your area or country, and use some imagination to photograph something ordinary. It doesnt matter if its easy or hard, as long as its something that anyone, anywhere in the world, might reasonably be able to guess at.
