I shoot 4:3 in RAW, mostly. I've tried the 1:1 and 3:2 but this is ok for jpg, and i usually don't shoot in jpg. I prefer, if the situation demands it, crop pictures in post work.
I have several cameras that allow my to capture in 4:3, 3:2, 4:4 and 16:9 in the Raw format. I end up shooting in the 3:2 format probably 90% of the time but like the option to compose and choose in the field from time to time...
I shoot in two aspect ratios
1) 4:3 on my G1 / as mentioned, to gain all the pixels I can
2) 3:2 on my Leica M5 and Pentax Super Program: Fixed by the film gate
I also shoot raw with both....
I convert the Film scans to tiffs, than to JPG as a finished file.
I convert the G1 raw to JPG as a finished file.
If I want to gets prints made, I can convert the G1 files to Tiffs, and just keep the film scans as is. (well, I use "Save As" to not to over-right the original). To get maximum information to the printer.
