The principle of the old cliche about a rolling stone is simply: things which keep moving, which keep being used, which are valued and kept up -- retain a sort of virtual youth.

This can apply to people -- we all know those real old timers who surprise us by being spry, engaged, and relevant. Really, there should be ways to show this in almost any genre and almost any subject type -- animal, vegetable, or mineral, lol.

So your challenge is to embody this idea in your photos. The winning entry will be the photograph that catches the meaning the best as I see it ... (oh, the power! uhh... did I say that out loud... crap.)

-------------------- The Rules remain the same-----------------------:
1. Either take a picture that matches the nominated theme or select one from your portfolio. You must be the photographer that created the picture in order to enter it.

2. There are several ways to add your photos to the current salon thread: 1. upload your entry to your SC user gallery (all entries must be present in an SC gallery), which you automatically get if you are registered on the SC forum, so if you aren`t registered you will need to if you would like to join the fun. (Don't know about the "gallery" yet? Then read this: SC Gallery FAQ please read it carefully if you are new to using the site's software.) 2. embed from Flickr or another similar web hosting photo site and 3. use the attachment method. All three are explained here:How to post images in forum threads

3. Only one entry per salon, please. If you want to withdraw an entry and replace it with another, that is OK, but you must make it clear in the post containing your replacement picture that this is what you've done. You can add or change the title and add to the edit line to let everyone know.

4. The decision of the curator at the end of the challenge is final - don't give him/her a hard time about it: this is just a friendly photo challenge, after all!

5. The person who submitted the chosen picture will assume the responsibility of curator for the next Salon Challenge and as soon as possible post a message in a new thread in the SC Photo Challenges forum, with details of the new theme. Don't forget - that opening message must include a copy of these instructions, which also double as the rules.

6. The curator can't enter his or her own salon.

7. Please, don´t be shy...Participate and have fun!

8. Each salon should be open for about two weeks.

I'll have to think about this.

My dad was a restless man in his youth. We moved a lot. And he would say, "a rolling stone gathers no moss", and then he would add, " and not much else either". The thought was, that movement stops things from "sticking". His other expression in this thought was, "3 moves is the same as a burnout". In other words, it costs a lot to keep moving and starting over.

He was right on both accounts.

Excellent, Ricks!

snkenai: whatever your interpretation is, it is. I'll accept all ideas that fit somewhere in the concept even if it's not exactly as I articulated it. Have at it!

I'll play with an image dear to me, hoping you'll find it fitting the theme. Here's a description I wrote when I originally posted it:

"I passed by a truly old house, barely standing and looking as it may fall apart any moment. And there, in the ancient pre-WW2-style wooden window frame was a petite bouquet of fresh flowers. Not only this ruin was inhabited, but someone actually made a small contribution to make it prettier."

No Moss

Latest, in long line of photographic equipment. and it has no moss! My list, is so long it's impossible to remember. But I have never kept any, long enough to gather/grow moss. :)

I really wanted to do something clever for this great theme, but I'm a bit stumped. But I have a customer named Sam who I think fits the description quite nicely. He was in a 60 rock group in San Francisco called the Mainliners. I found an old photo on the internet that he hadn't seen since way back then. I cleaned it up a little and gave him a copy. He was pretty excited. He no longer plays music anymore, but he stays active and stops by the record once or twice a week and we talk about music. He saw my Fuji one day and said it reminded him of his old Leica. He used to shoot Formula one cars in the late 60s and early 70s. I asked him if I could take a shot of him and he obliged. So here's a little diptych I made of Sam...... then and now. Some things never change.
