This just has to be a mistake.

I ordered a Panasonic 20mm lens from Warehouse deals. I ordered one marked "Like New"

The shipping box is in perfect shape, but see the condition of the lens kit inside. I have to think this was meant to be shipped for an insurance claim, or just plain thrown away, and it was accidentally sent to me.

The box it shipped in - undamaged
    [IMG]

What I got when I opened the box - a bag of loose parts
    [IMG]

The lens box as it was shipped to me. It was flat and in the bag.

The lens -- note no front cap. Just rolling around unprotected (though it was in bubble wrap)

    The rear cap, damaged
    [IMG]

Of course, I'm returning it and they are covering the return charge, but I just can't believe they shipped this particular lens. It just has to be an error. I can't see them thinking they can pass this off as "like new" or that they even really wanted to ship it to a customer at all!

Yeah I'm hoping your right. No business in their right mind would ship that mess to a customer!

Well, according to the UK HMRC, (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs), i.e. The Tax Man, Amazon make a loss in the UK as they do not pay UK Corporation Tax

"Amazon.co.uk, Britain's biggest online retailer, generated sales of more than £3.3bn in the country last year but paid no corporation tax on any of the profits from that income – and is under investigation by the UK tax authorities"

Amazon: £7bn sales, no UK corporation tax | Technology | The Guardian

    I can now see why

Do they ship it insured? It could be mail fraud if that is their plan.

    LOL

I've given serious consideration to censoring all forms of the word "mint" in the buy and sell forums on Mu-43, here, and TalkNEX. Makes me cringe everytime I see "mint". "Minty" and "mintish" are even worse.

there should be some function of the forum software that when you type any variant of mint, it just replaces it with another word that starts with "M". Kind of like when you watch a movie on TV with a bunch of curse words and there are ridiculous words chosen for replacements.

As in "a unique and one of a kind ownership opportunity" :)

It's in UPS' hands now, back to Amazon. They better not accuse me of damaging the lens. Of course, I didn't take a video of the unboxing, because who would expect such a thing? All I have are these pictures from after I opened the box. I'm assuming, though, that because I put soooo much money through Amazon each year, they will not dream of putting up a fight.

It's Amazon. Don't worry about it. Although if too many things are returned to Amazon they have a tendency to ban people.

Just to close the loop -- they did refund my money. Almost immediately (it usually takes longer), but oddly they applied the reason "Item shipped late" which was not the reason I gave! Sounds like someone messed up in the loop somewhere, and maybe this is a CYA move? Oh well. Everyone makes mistakes, and at least they corrected it. They also gave me the same discount for a replacement lens (even though the discount had ended), and that lens I already have and it's working flawlessly. I continue to love Amazon.

Same in Australia, Bill. No tax. Nor does Apple, apparently, and the ATO is after them.

Brings up journalism ethics. That person just WATCHED that box, and did nothing to help!
