New rumors of Canon EOS M discontinuing The Next EOS M Camera(s) [CR1] « Canon Rumors

Coupled with Canon's new PDAF on a chip technology: Canon EOS 70D Hands-on Preview: Digital Photography Review

Could the EOS M POSSIBLY include this new technology?

Now, I've been using Canon products since about 2003. They are FRUSTRATINGLY slow to put in the new tech at the consumer level. They always feel a year or so behind. I remember ELPHs with no zooming during video like 2 years after Panny TX series had it. And no HD video, etc.

But maybe, just maybe, given how poor their EOS AF is, they have to put the PDAF chip in? That would truly differentiate their line.

Imagine if you could use their M mount 22 or 11-22 or maybe even the $99 EF mount 50/1.8 on the EOS M with fast AF. I just might, if they also put in a tilt screen.

Could Canon rise from the mirrorless dead here?

Yes, unless you shoot them in the head. Then they really die, lol.

Make sure you burn them after you shoot them, too.

But, seriously, I wouldn't even think about an EOS M 2 unless a number of trusted professional reviews and users demonstrated the performance of the new camera. Honestly, Canon got caught out by the entire mirrorless movement and is still strugggling to catch up. That doesn't mean they can't or won't do so. But, when it comes to Canon, I'm definitely in " show me" mode.

I think Canon got the message and will make a competitive body, especially with the new 20mp sensor if it's really that good. Even if it is 2 bodies away per the rumors. BTW, when does season 4 start?

I think I'll wait until I get to try my soon to arrive bargain EOS M. I was giving serious thought to the new Ricoh GR, but as Thom Hogan pointed out, the 22mm EOS M kit is a similar system at a much lower price. With all the cameras I've bought, I managed to avoid Nikon or Canon, so I'm very curious.

I think Canon got the message now with the recent fire sale on the EOS-M, two things right off the bat that I think Canon should do on the MKII includes a better handling even with my small hands this thing feels tiny but surprisingly I've managed to do one handed shots with this so far since it has a right grip. But I must say the build quality of this is very decent even beats there Rebel line up expect for the T4, T5i in my opinion.

Canon doesn't get it, that's for sure.

Live in the USA? Want the new 11-22mm ultrawide for EOS M? Forget about it. Canon won't sell it in the USA.

Canon Gets it Wrong With the EOS M | Sans Mirror | Thom Hogan

If you bought this in the USA as a system camera, be prepared to buy additional lenses (other than the two kit lenses) from overseas with NO warranty.

So, if the EOS M II comes out, it will still only have the two kit lenses, and nothing else. Thom's right: Canon essentially lied when they marketed the camera. There's an implied promise there from a manufacturer like Canon and they have broken it.

Maybe with the sales of EOS-M lately and enough angry letters demanding that lens be released here in the US perhaps Canon will reconsider.

Possibly -- but you think they would have listened to their dealers. They were the ones stuck with unsellable excess inventory that had to be discounted unbelievably.

Kai and the DigitalRev crew have weighed in by testing the new EOS M performance against rival systems. Stay for the "extras" after the closing credits though -- better tests...maybe...

Here's the new PDAF sensor on the 70D chip, using live view to focus. If this works on the EOS-M mkII and provides C-AF, then that will be spectacular.

If there's enough angry EOS-M users that would start flooding there boards of brining that lens to the US I think they would have no choice but to listen.

You're talking about the same people who decided to release -- at a ruinously high price -- a poorly engineered camera in the first place. If they cared, you would think they would have offered something to all the angry, letter writing, emailing, etc. people who complained about the camera after they purchased it.

I am not optimistic about Canon and mirrorless at this juncture. They screwed it up in fundamental ways that suggests their management is a little dysfunctional. It is still mind-boggling that the EOS-M was ever sold in the state it was when released. It is further dazzling that it took a year to release a patch that scarcely improves the product.

Wow. And I mean that sincerely. Somebody at Canon should lose their job and for all we will ever know maybe they already have.

The 70D looks very good indeed.
