I need to know the story behind this one, please?
That thing is massive and yes more info please.
dear old Wikipaedia says Great Globe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"That's no moon..."
This seemed vaguely familiar,....after many days it suddenly hit me that this is VERY similar to the one at Durlstone near Swanage in Lyme Bay.....??
ah, that'll be because this is the one at Durlston Park near Swanage ... though it's not in Lyme Bay, which is much further West
Sorry!...I meant to say 'Swanage Bay'!!
I should remember exactly where this is because I spent 10 years as a Royal Brit.Legion adult instructor with a 100 strong youth band and every year the bands summer school was in 'Swanny' and this globe was often featured in our treasure hunt map reading excercise around Swanage Bay.
It looks very smart at the moment as it's just had conservators crawling all over it tarting it up ... the story of how it came to be there in the first place is in the Wiki article I linked to above ... the Castle is in the process of major restoration at the moment
