  1. I have a slight dilemma.. I bought a X100s silver from Amazon and low a behold a Black version showed up a couple of days later.. I have talked with Amazon and I can return 1 no problem.. which color should I return? I like both, but obviously can't keep both.. In my eyes Silver looks Retro and Black looks Stealthy.. which one would you keep and which one would have the best resale value? Your opinions appreciated..
    Thanks...

camera that are all black all seem to look a bit the same (to me). The original X100 is silver and black and most consider a modern classic. I'd stick with the original color scheme.

I also think it looks more "old-timey" as some people say when I pull it out (the camera). I find people pose more easily or are less uptight around what they think might be a film camera.

Regarding use, this is a personal taste. Regarding resale value, that depends on relative supply and demand of the cameras. If the silver are perceived as more desirable (higher demand) and there are fewer about (more scarcity) then it will command a higher price. Also, it might depend on time to sale. If you leave it too long (what is this in the digital world is a bit of a guess) then newer cameras might (will) appear due to technology changes. In the mean time happy shooting! (disclosure: in the Fuji world I used a black XE-1 only). - martin

Black is less common. But the new X100T comes in both styles so they be less so uncommon in black. I would follow your gut feeling because either one will yield great result.
  7. I would say dials equal for reading info..
  8. Luke.. yes I would have to agree with you.. but I like both.. hahal..
  9. demiro..have you have been reading how I like a touch screen? I do, however on the x100s the controls are very convenient.. so acceptable..
  10. words well spoken.. I like both.. so I am just curious what others may think.. thanks..

The silver X100S is a handsome and elegant camera. But the black X100S....I personally find more beautiful. It (the black color) reminds me of the first camera I ever took pictures with, an old (1936) Leica that my father had bought when he was a young man. Even way back then, there were larger numbers of silver cameras - and the black models were both rarer and, to my way of thinking, cooler.

Obviously some things have changed especially with the advent of the more modern digital camera epoch - with so many black-bodied DSLR's - but the X100S unapologetically has taken some of its styling cues from classic rangefinders and Leica's - and to my (admittedly twisted and prejudiced) way of looking at things, a black-bodied X100S would be intrinsically more handsome....than the already-good-looking silver bodied one.

    Just my .02.

And even though it's an incredibly difficult and subjective question to answer, there's really one one question to ask - which one would make you happier?

Yeah, I would agree, the manual controls help a lot. It's funny, I tell myself that touch to focus/shoot is not that big of a deal. But when I don't have it I miss it. When I do have it I use it and appreciate it. I've bounced around between X100 RX100, E-P5, E-M5 and NEX6 this year, so I have remind myself which features are present on the camera in hand at any given moment.

As for black v silver, tough choice. I finally bought a silver/black E-P5. I did find pricing a bit lower on black only bodies, but not so much so that it would drive my decision with regard to re-sale. I have other all black cameras, so I like have a change up.

I know that when I have a decision like that to make, the best thing I can do is separate myself from the issue by doing something else (walking, cycling, washing the car etc). Somewhere along the way a decision seems to be made without my involvement (processed in the background?) and I seldom regret it. The old cliché about sleeping on a decision applies too.

I've always found the black version better looking, that's all I can say. Perfectly happy with my silver one though...

I replaced a black XE 1 with a silver XE 2. I wanted a black XE 2 but got a price I couldn't refuse in silver. I am warming up to the silver but at the same price I would have chosen the black.
  16. Hey thanks for all of your helpful input on this nutty choice.. LOL.. I'm going to make decision today so I can get it out of my head.. leaning towards Black.. :laugh1:
